世界防災フォーラム2023に参加しました

神戸大学減災デザインセンター（CResD）がアソシエイツ・パートナーとして参画している「EU LINKS Project」は、どのように仙台防災枠組が目指す災害リスク削減に貢献しているのでしょうか？仙台で開催された世界防災フォーラム2023にて、LINKSのサイエンティフィック・コーディネーター Nathan E. Clarkさんが語りました。

活動報告：防災学習イベント「外国人のための避難所体験」にて登壇しました

 12月は防災学習イベント「外国人のための避難所体験」にて登壇しました（主催：神戸国際コミュニティセンター、神戸大学グローバル教育センター、大学コンソーシアムひょうご神戸）。第一部「みんなで考えようかんがえよう！災害への備えと避難 ひなん」にて、災害時に必要となる情報や避難対応について「やさしい日本語」を用いて解説しました。第二部では、神戸市危機管理室より防災地図アプリ等の利用体験、第三部ではロールプレイ型避難所体験が行われ、盛沢山のプログラムとなりました。

活動報告：兵庫障害者センター主催「災害と障害者のつどい」に登壇しました

1月17日に阪神・淡路大震災の発生から27年目を迎えました。震災を風化させないために、経験と教訓を次世代に語り継ぐための取り組みがますます重要になっていると感じています。また、1月30日に「2021年度災害と障害者のつどい」YouTubeライブ配信開催（主催：兵庫障害者センター）に登壇者として参加する機会がありました。災害危険区域に位置する要配慮者利用施設の避難対応に関する課題、避難をする必要のない立地づくりを最優先させるべきであることを啓発しました。現状では、施設を安全な場所に移転させることは大変です。まずは、例えばその移転先が地域の新しい避難施設や指定福祉避難所にもなるなど、地域全体の防災力が向上する付加価値について、住民と自治体が認識・共有することが重要であると思います。

17 January marked the 27th anniversary of the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. The tragedy cannot be forgotten. I feel that it is becoming more and more important to make efforts to pass on the experiences and lessons learned from the disaster to the next generation. Also, on January 30, I had the opportunity to participate as a panelist in the "Conference on Disasters and People with Disabilities" YouTube live broadcast (hosted by the Center for Persons with Disabilities in Hyogo Prefecture). I raised awareness of the issues related to the evacuation response of facilities that take care of people with disabilities, especially those located in disaster risk areas, and the need to prioritize the construction of these facilites in safe locations where there is no need for evacuation. In fact, it is very difficult to relocate pre-existent facilities to safer areas. First of all, I think it is important for residents and local governments to recognize and share the notion of "added value" that improve the disaster preparedness of the entire community - for example, by designating the destination of relocation as new a welfare evacuation shelter, benefiting even more the safety of community against catastrophes.

活動報告：夏休み企画「遊んで学ぼう！ロボットボールで防災プログラミング！」

8月は人と防災未来センター（DRI）の夏休み企画「防災未来学校」において、研究部による企画の主担当を務めさせていただきました。

今回は「遊んで学ぼう！ロボットボールで防災プログラミング！」と題して、小学5～6年生の児童とその保護者の親子ペアを対象に、災害が発生したら、みんなが助かるために、どのような行動を、どのような順番で行っていくのが良いのかなど、プログラミング的思考で課題解決の探索が体験できるワークショップを開催しました。

具体的には、道路、建物、沿岸部や高台など、市街地環境が描かれている2m x 2mのプレイマットを用いて、津波避難を想定したフィールドを設け、そのフィールドで親子ペア毎に自走式ロボットボール「Sphero BOLT」 をプログラミングして、動かしてもらいました。

フィールドに仕掛けた様々な物理的パーツとのインタラクションの仕方について考えてもらうなど（ルート上の「障害物」パーツを回避したり、「要配慮者」パーツと合流して一緒に避難するなど）、様々な課題解決を探究することができるプログラムとなりました。

近年、小中学校等においてプログラミング教育が必須化されることとなり、社会では現在、プログラミング的思考の身につけ方や多分野にまたがるカリキュラム開発について注目が集まっています。

今回の夏休み企画をきっかけに、今後も「減災プログラミング」をテーマとしたワークショップの開発やプログラミング教育／STEM教育の取り組みに貢献していきたいと思います。

In August, I was in charge to conduct one of event held by the Department of Research in this year's "Bousai Mirai Gakkou", a series of summer vacation events for children hosted by Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution (DRI).

This time, we held a workshop themed "Let's Play and Learn! Disaster Prevention Programming with Rolling Ball Robot!". With the participation of parent-child pairs (5th and 6th grade elementary school students and their parents), they could experience the problem-solving process through programming-thinking: when a disaster strikes, what actions should be taken, and in what order, for everyone to survive?

Specifically, a 2m x 2m playmat depicting urban environments, such as roads, buildings, coastal areas, and high ground, was used to set up a hypothetical tsunami evacuation field. Each parent-child pair was asked to programming and move the "Sphero BOLT" Rolling Ball Robot in this field.

The programming experience allowed participants to explore how to interact with the various physical pieces set up on the field to solve problems, e.g., avoid the piece representing "obstacle" on the route; join the piece representing "vulnerable person in need of assistance" to evacuate together, etc.

In recent years, programming education has become mandatory in elementary and junior high schools in Japan, and there is a lot of attention to acquiring programming thinking and developing a curriculum that spans multiple fields.

With this Summer School Project as a starting point, I would like to continue to develop workshops on the theme of "Gensai Programming" (Disaster Risk Reduction Programming), and contribute to the programming education / STEM education initiatives.

At the special exhibition "Reviewing the Disaster Situation Map by GIS" by Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Memorial DRI | 人と防災未来センター震災25年特別展示「GISで見直す被災地図」にて

A special exhibition "Reviewing the Disaster Situation Map by GIS" is being held at the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake Memorial - Disaster Reduction and Human Renovation Institution (http://www.dri.ne.jp/en). There are two wide-scale printed maps and one interactive display-based map that show the damage situation for each building, affected by earthquake and/or subsequent fire outbreaks in low-rise-high-density residential areas, etc. The exhibition reinforces the magnitude of disaster that occurred 25 years ago.

Apple Teacher Certificate Acquired

I recently went to one of Apple Stores in Kansai to evaluate third party devices that could be useful for my future research projects. I took the opportunity to participate in two Today at Apple sessions, "Design Lab: Drawing Treehouses Co⁠-⁠created with Foster + Partners" and "Art Lab for Teachers: Sketch Projects", through which I got to know the learning program above. Today I was able to complete the necessary tests to obtain the certification as “Apple Teacher”.
